Liberal vs. Conservative
- What the battle seems to boil down to is that both sides want government, it's just that they can't agree on what the government should do.
- For instance, many conservatives want the government to step in whenever gay people try to get married, expanding the government not reducing it. Also, many conservatives want the government to step in more harshly on the issue of pornography and censorship, expanding the government not reducing it. Many conservatives want more prisons to house the ever growing prison population, expanding government not reducing it.
- All the above cost more tax dollars doesn't it? So you take from one program you don't like, say welfare, and you give it to the other program you do like, say marriage.
- I don't see how that's different than what liberals do. Most liberals want government to step in when guns are involved, expanding government not reducing it. Most liberals want government to step in for equality of sexes/race, expanding affirmative action and the like. Most liberals want government to step in for health care issues as well, expanding government.
- All the above cost more tax dollars doesn't it? So you take from one program you don't like, say the prison system by decriminalizing marijuana, and you give it to the other program you do like, say health care.
- To me, the only difference is what the government should do, not how much.
